An interview with Keith Hendrie by Alison Harley
Keith Hendrie, became an apprentice dyer in 1964 at Bridgehaugh Dyeworks in Selkirk, and as with all apprentices of that time, he undertook part-time technical studies at the Scottish College of Textiles.
Over the next five years he was trained in wool dyeing for the Scottish Borders textile industry. Keith first became aware of Bernat Klein in the late 1960s, when Klein was first developing his space-dyed yarns. As a newly qualified dyer, Keith developed techniques and processes to create the challenging prototypes of random dyeing of yarns, for Bernat Klein’s couture tweeds.
