“It was a joy to be able to see first-hand the magical quality of Bernat Klein’s tweeds.”

Mariam Syed and Moira Nilsson - Bernat Klein Fellows

As part of their one-month residency Mariam and Moira had the opportunity to meet Lisa Mason, Assistant Curator for Modern and Contemporary Design at National Museums Scotland and expert in Klein.

The archive visit included several original pattern books from Klein’s 1960s tweed collections bought by the London and Paris Fashion Houses from that period of fashion and textiles. Garments owned and worn by Margaret Klein were also available for closer examination. They initiated much discussion on the originality and brilliance of Klein’s textile designs and their technical construction for production.

Marta Aspe Fernandez, Bernat Klein 2025 Ambassador also joined the archive visit to support her work with the Bernat Klein Foundation. Marta is currently studying a Masters in Textiles Conservation at the University of Glasgow.

“Thank you so much for coming to see the collection, it was great to get your perspectives on the textiles and had caused me to ponder their construction.” Lisa Mason, NMS
